AAPT ATM
The AAPT ATM service is designed to provide a single solution for your data networking requirements in Australia. The service offers a connection from each of your sites into the AAPT national network, allowing communication between sites in the form of ATM based VPN (virtual private network) services, otherwise known as permanent virtual circuits (PVCs).
The AAPT ATM service is offered as a bandwidth only service. Services are offered at speeds of 34Mbps, 45Mbps and155Mbps.
Main Components of the Service
The service comprises three main components:
1. Access Services
Access into your site includes:
- the telecommunications circuit into your site from the AAPT network node; and
- the WAN (wide area network) interface equipment installed at your site - this is known as a Network Termination Unit (NTU).
2. Permanent Virtual Circuits
PVCs are provided between sites based on specific design and network dimensioning. PVC parameters provide specific peak and sustained information rate specifications based on ATM technical parameters.
The PVC has two key associated parameters:
- The minimum amount of bandwidth available for the specific PVC; and
- The maximum amount of bandwidth available for this specific PVC. This supports the burst nature of LAN (local area network) traffic.
In the AAPT network, the Sustained Information Rate (SIR) of any PVC is set at a minimum of one eighth (1/8th) of the Peak Information Rate (PIR). The PIR of a PVC is set to the lessor of the two access speeds. Any combination of SIR in increments of 8Kbps is supported on our network up to a maximum of SIR = PIR specification.
Two varieties of ATM PVC (classes of service) are supported by the AAPT network:
- Variable bit rate non real time (VBR nrt); and
- Constant Bit Rate (CBR).
3.Service Types
The AAPT ATM network supports the following service types:
- User to network interface (UNI) services; and
- Frame Relay to ATM Interworking.
